During surgical procedures, it is a good idea to place animals on an intravenous fluid infusion to maintain proper blood pressure and allow venous access in the event of an emergency. Veterinary Dentistry: a clean mouth is a healthy mouth

At Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis, our wish is to improve the health of dogs and cats on the Plateau Mont-Royal.

Like humans, animals have their veterinary dentist. Your pet’s mouth is just as prone to disease as that of a human. It is therefore important to be concerned about their oral health. Bad teeth can lead to several symptoms such as bad breath, difficulty chewing, or loss of appetite. In the case of an infection, your pet’s immune health can be affected, which can lead to more serious infections.

At Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis on the Plateau Mont-Royal, we offer you complete veterinary dentistry services. Prophylaxis consists of deep scaling and polishing under general anesthesia. Dental surgeries performed at the clinic include dental extractions, gum repair and removal of gum masses. In addition, we pay special attention to pain management using local anesthesia.

  • Descaling / polishing
  • Dental extraction
  • Prevention through specialized food

Digital radiology helps in early diagnosis of your pet's health problems

Our digital equipment is at the cutting edge of available imaging technology. Digital radiology is safe, non-invasive and is a great diagnostic tool. This system allows us to work quickly and efficiently, which is less stressful for your pet.

The benefits of digital radiology are:

  • Images are produced almost instantly
  • The images are clear and in high resolution
  • Images can be manipulated for better visibility
  • There is less radiation than a traditional X-Ray
  • Images can be emailed or saved on a CD

Complete veterinary laboratory on the Plateau Mont-Royal

The animal does not speak to us or, at least, we must not trust what it says. Laboratory tests are reliable and can tell us a lot about your pet’s state of health. We have a laboratory on-site. If necessary, certain tests can be carried out in specialized laboratories.

  • You may be offered a urine test (urology) to check for a urinary tract infection, for example
  • A stool analysis (coprology) may be offered to you when your pet has diarrhea to check for the presence of intestinal parasites
  • To identify more precisely the origin of a lump/mass that appeared on your animal’s body, cytology or histopathology may be recommended by your veterinarian
  • Bacteria and fungi may exhibit resistance to certain antibiotics, so you may be offered sensitivity testing for antibiotic/antifungal groups (microbiological cultures).

Animal Healthcare

At Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis, we offer a comprehensive animal health care program for dogs and cats on Plateau-Mont-Royal. Our intervention protocols are focused on prevention. A healthy diet and regular care help dogs and cats live long, healthy lives.

Welcoming puppies and kittens of Plateau Mont-Royal!

Adopting a kitten or puppy is very exciting and a happy time in a home, but the details regarding its health care can be a little intimidating. Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis is your partner in taking care of the new member of your family. We understand the bond you have with your pet and our mission is to provide you with premium health care for your kitten or puppy. We aim for the best customer experience and a calm environment for your pet. During your first visit, we will establish a tailor-made care plan for living in harmony on Plateau Mont-Royal with your dog or cat. The health care plan includes appropriate vaccines, sterilization, nutrition, dental assessments and parasite prevention.

Why vaccinate your puppy or kitten?

At birth, a kitten or puppy receives immunoglobulins with breast milk, but this protection does not last long. Vaccinating your pet provides effective protection against life-threatening diseases. Your pet will receive a series of at least three immunizations against the most common diseases at the age of 8 weeks and, thereafter, booster shots if necessary. Kittens and puppies do not share the same health risks for diseases. Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis will develop a vaccination plan specific to your animal after a risk assessment for the duration of its life.

What are the recommended vaccines for my cat?

We recommend the following vaccines:

  • Feline panleucopenia
  • Feline leukemia (FeLV)
  • Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV)
  • Feline rhinotracheitis (RVF)
  • Feline calicivirus (CVF)
  • Rabies

What vaccines are recommended for my dog?

We recommend the following basic vaccines for your dog:

  • Distemper
  • Hepatitis-CAV-2
  • Parvovirus
  • Parainfluenza

My family veterinarian

The Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis’s promise: to provide your pet with the best veterinary care. Humans have family doctors, dogs and cats from Plateau Mont-Royal have their veterinarian. We want to provide you with the ultimate patient experience for your dog or cat, as well as the ultimate customer experience for yourself. It is most important to follow the health protocol suggested by your veterinarian, including preventive tests and treatments. We provide consultations, laboratory tests, radiology, dentistry and surgery to prevent health problems. We recommend preventive treatments for heartworms, fleas and ticks. We want to team up with you to provide your dog and cat with a happy, healthy long life.

Vaccination of adult cats

Vaccination is an important component in the prevention protocol for the health of your cat. Vaccination provides safe, proven and effective protection against life-threatening diseases for your cat, but also you. Our cat vaccines are without adjuvants to provide your cat with the healthiest vaccines.

We recommend the following basic vaccines:

  • Rhinotracheitis
  • Callicivirose
  • Panleucopenia

In partnership with you, and according to your lifestyle, we can recommend the appropriate vaccines for your cat’s health. Your cat hunts outside or catches the mice in your living room (yes, on Plateau Mont-Royal, the mice roam between the houses, some will even listen to TV), our veterinarians will be able to recommend the appropriate vaccines. We can even discuss your cat’s hunting performance with you if necessary.

Vaccination for adult dogs

Many infectious diseases can be prevented through a comprehensive vaccination program. The lifestyle of dogs on Plateau Mont-Royal is different from suburban dogs, our veterinarians understand this, and they will determine the vaccination program that best suits your pet. Vaccines are the basis for disease prevention in both humans and animals.

We recommend the following basic vaccines:

  • Distemper
  • Hepatitis-CAV-2
  • Parvovirus
  • Parainfluenza

Specialized Veterinary Care for Senior Dogs and Cats

Clinique Vétérinaire de St-Louis on Plateau Mont-Royal is committed to giving you care to maximize the quality of life, happiness and longevity of your senior dog or cat. Animals age faster than humans. Early detection of a disease gives your pet a better chance of survival. Among the most common problems in dogs and cats in the golden years are kidney, heart and thyroid disease, which are quite manageable if diagnosed early. Treatment costs and stress in animals can be better controlled if diagnosis and treatment begin at the first stage of the disease. We always recommend a consultation every six months for our senior patients.

Living Well for Senior Dogs and Cats

When your dog or cat reaches the age of 8, we consider it a senior. We recommend a consultation every six months to quickly detect changes in his health. Here’s what the exams can include.

  • Complete blood test – check of renal, liver and thyroid functions;
  • Fecal matter testing – checking for digestive issues, internal bleeding, pancreatic dysfunction, intestinal parasites;
  • Dentistry – Checking teeth and gums for signs of disease that can potentially be signs of systemic disease;
  • Medical imaging – Verification of tumours, larger organs than normal, heart failure, lung disease, kidney stones, bladder stones or any other problem undetectable through palpation;
  • Blood pressure test – A change in blood pressure may allow your veterinarian to detect changes in your pet’s health before any other signs;
  • Antibody test – Validates if additional vaccines are needed.

Vaccination and Older Animals

Older animals have lower resistance to disease, so it’s important to keep vaccinations up to date. According to the tests, we could supplement the vaccines and the protection against potentially fatal diseases for your animal. Our priority is to ensure maximum protection without over-stimulating an immune response. During your bi-annual review, we will discuss with you the different options to determine the protocol that best suits your cat or dog, and you.

Healthy Nutrition Adapted to an Older Pet

It’s no secret that nutrition plays an important role in our health. The same goes for our cat or our dog. When your pet gets older, it either gains weight or loses weight. In some cases, these changes can be attributed to illness. Several specialized diets are available to provide proper nutritional support. During your bi-annual consultation, we will discuss with you the different diets available, and we will determine what’s best for your dog or cat.

Lifestyle on the Plateau is different, and our veterinarians are there to meet the health and well-being needs of your cat or dog.

Nutrition

Veterinarians and the technicians of the Hospital can guide you in choosing superior quality food adapted to your animal’s specific needs. We also implement nutrition programs to, among other things, guide you in reading nutrition labels to better understand where calories come from. PREVENTING IS BETTER THAN HEALING!

  • Growth food
  • Maintenance food
  • Therapeutic food related to a health problem
  • Diet and weight loss program
